Portmagee Swimming Class
Learn to Swim in Portmagee, part of the beautiful Ring of Kerry.
Valentia swimming lessons take place at Knightstown, across from the Royal Hotel. It is a small, sheltered strand with a slipway going down to it. It is slightly stony and near a busy roadway so young children need to be closely supervised. There is plenty of parking nearby and also cafes, a hotel, a shop and public toilets.
The ferry to Renard comes and goes from the nearby pier so this makes it easy for participants coming from Renard or Cahersiveen. Valentia Seasports is based close by, so there is lots to see and do while waiting for lessons.
Valentia Water Safety lessons make use of the pier (safely away from the patch of the ferry) to access deeper water. Locals and visitors alike are very welcome to the annual lessons. Many visitors plan their holidays to coincide with the lessons, and friendships have been built up over the years of attending lessons.
Swimming lessons are generally held the week of the August Bank Holiday with water safety on the following week. However, lessons can sometimes be help a week earlier/ later to ensure that there are hightides at suitable times during water safety week.
